Job Summary
The Projection Triage Engineer is responsible for the initial technical investigation of Bluetooth and device projection–related issues within the Infotainment and Connectivity domain. This role focuses on reproducing reported issues, performing structured triage, and collecting high-quality Bluetooth, projection, application, CAN, and system logs required for downstream analysis and root cause determination by engineering and supplier teams.
The Projection Triage Engineer works closely with Issue Resolution Engineers, validation teams, platform teams, and suppliers to ensure Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and projection app issues are well understood, reproducible, and supported by complete and accurate technical data. This position is hands-on and vehicle-focused, requiring strong debugging discipline, attention to detail, and strict adherence to defined test, certification, and logging procedures.
Key Responsibilities
1. Issue Intake, Triage & Reproduction
- Triage incoming issues related to Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and projection-based applications from internal teams, field reports, and validation findings.
- Reproduce reported issues in vehicles, benches, or lab setups using a variety of mobile devices, OS versions, cable types, and configurations.
- Validate issue conditions including connection flow, pairing state, projection launch, app behavior, device state, and user interaction patterns.
- Identify issue frequency, triggers, dependencies, and environmental factors (e.g., device OS version, app version, cable quality, wireless vs. wired projection).
- Confirm issue scope, impact, and severity prior to escalation to analysis and resolution teams.
2. Data Collection & Logging
- Collect complete and high-quality Bluetooth, projection, application, system, and CAN logs required for root cause analysis.
- Enable and verify proper logging configurations on head units, mobile devices, and supporting infrastructure prior to reproduction.
- Capture supporting artifacts including device model, OS version, app version, projection mode, timestamps, vehicle state, software versions, and VINs.
- Ensure logs are complete, time-aligned, and usable before sharing with engineering teams or suppliers.
3. Technical Support to Analysis & Resolution Teams
- Provide clear and structured handoff of reproduced issues, observed behaviors, and collected logs to Issue Resolution Engineers and suppliers.
- Support deeper analysis by answering questions related to reproduction conditions, user flows, and device-specific behavior.
- Perform additional reproduction attempts, A/B comparisons, or targeted data collection as requested by analysis teams.
- Assist in identifying whether issues are new regressions, known limitations, device-specific behaviors, app-related issues, or certification-related constraints.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with Issue Resolution, Validation, Infotainment, Connectivity, Quality, and Supplier teams.
- Participate in triage meetings, device compatibility reviews, ride-and-drives, and investigation sessions as required.
- Provide concise written and verbal updates on issue reproduction status, findings, and blockers.
- Escalate issues when reproduction or analysis is blocked due to tooling limitations, device availability, configuration gaps, or certification constraints.
5. Documentation & Process Adherence
- Document clear reproduction steps, conditions, results, and collected evidence in issue tracking systems.
- Ensure issues are accurately categorized (Bluetooth, CarPlay, Android Auto, app-related, wired vs. wireless, device-specific).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in automotive development, debugging, infotainment testing, connectivity validation, triage, or vehicle-level investigation roles.
- Hands-on experience working with vehicles, benches, or infotainment lab environments.
- Strong familiarity with Bluetooth technologies (pairing, profiles, audio streaming, phone integration).
- Experience testing and troubleshooting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (wired and wireless).
- Experience collecting and reviewing Bluetooth, projection, application, CAN, Wireshark and system logs using automotive and mobile diagnostic tools.
- Basic understanding of infotainment architectures, automotive networks (CAN, Ethernet), and embedded systems.
